We believe that the Word of Christ is to dwell richly in us in all wisdom, and that God has granted a devotional summary of the entire Word of Christ in the Book of Praises, commonly known as the Psalms. We believe that the Psalms are ideally to comprise the “first, last, and middle” of Christian worship. In the Psalms we see doctrine, prophecy, precepts, wisdom, prayers, and a mirror for all of human experience. We see our Lord Crucified, buried, raised again, seated in glory, as a prophet, a priest, and a king. We see our own ingratitude, our own repentance, our own joys, our own blessings, our own thankfulness and our own needs and distresses.
We believe that we are commanded to sing this entire book, and as such, our custom is to use one of the historic, poetic versifications of the Psalms to sing this Book of Praises in worship. Our intention is to sing the entire Psalter in much the same way as the reading of Scripture, singing an approximately eight-verse selection at a time within our public worship.
